Hebrews 6:19-20 says, "We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek." This passage tells us that our hope in Christ must be our soul's anchor. We may be tempted to anchor ourselves to our wealth, our popularity, our careers, or our health. However, the Bible tells us that these ethereal things are neither steadfast, strong, nor permanent. A ship in the middle of a storm will find no security when tethered to a floating piece of driftwood. Instead, a ship will only find safety and peace when anchored to the bedrock of the ocean flood. Christ is our bedrock and our firm foundation. We will only find security when we anchor ourselves to him.

Additionally, two things will happen when you bind yourself to Christ. First, the anchor will keep you from drifting. An untethered ship will drift with the wind. Likewise, you will also sail into dangerous waters if you are not anchored in Christ. It is easy to drift away from God. It is easy to drift away from your goals. It is easy to drift away from the people you love. It is easy to drift away from your Church. When unanchored, your drifting will never cease and you may wander without even realizing that you are lost. This is a dangerous thing. Anchoring yourself to Christ is the ONLY way to protect yourself from straying into treacherous waters. If you find yourself captured in the strong currents of life, know that Christ's love for you is a strong chain that will bind you to solid rock and hold you safe.

Second, the anchor will add stability in a storm. When in a storm, an anchor holds the ship steady amongst the tumultuous waves. Likewise, anchoring yourself to Christ will add stability to your life. Storms are inevitable. Rogue winds and tidal waves will find their way into every measure of our lives. We may suffer the loss of loved ones or stress at work. In those moments, we must have an anchor to steady us from the pitch and roll of life. The question that we must ask is, " Where do we anchor our lives when the waves come?"

The Bible tells us that we need Christ. With Christ as our anchor, we will not drift into dangerous waters and we will have the stability that we need in order to overcome the storm. As your pastor, my prayer for you is that you will anchor your life in Christ as you encounter the different waves of your life this year.

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes

A Word From Pastor Eng

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

What is your new year's resolution? To earn money, to become healthier, to start a serious relationship? Are you praying for a FAT bank account and a THIN body? Let us not repeat the mistakes of the year before. I do not know what you are asking from God this year, but one thing we must do is Anchor ourselves in Christ.
